It was the middle of Jeff and Maria Alejandra’s vacation to Maui on Ironwoods Beach, Kapalua. The date was May 28th, approximately 5:15 pm. Jeff had been walking Maria in serpentine patterns around the beach and the adjacent cliff slide, trying to kill time for the big moment. His palms were sweaty, knees weak…his arms were heavy, There were stains on his Aloha T already, hotel spaghetti, He was nervous, but on the surface he looked calm and ready… Okay, knock off Eminem lyrics aside, Jeff was not going to let this moment slip without capturing this surprise engagement to his love. Jeff made sure to find the right photographer, the right location, and the right time to capture the perfect shot. Maria had no clue of this plan, and it was difficult to keep the secret, as Maria is sometimes very nosy. He knew he wanted pictures in nice clothes, so he told Maria they had dinner reservations and there was a great lookout spot on the cliffs near the beach. The photographer was set to be on the beach taking pictures of his friends, acting as customers. Jeff had to kill time as he was actually early to the meeting location. In the Stuart household, if you are not 15 minutes early, you are late…it was time to improvise! Jeff had the ring in his back pocket, holding Maria’s hand and leading her around to several viewpoints for pictures of the amazing surroundings. They took fun selfies, with the wind whipping their hair all over, while he kept Maria by his side as he did not want her to see the ring box in his pocket. This was harder than it seemed due to Jeff being a notorious fast walker. After selfies were completed, there was still no photographer on the beach! Jeff went into panic mode and started taking pictures of pigeons. This should have been the clue to Maria that something was up, as Jeff has more than once expressed his dislike of pigeons. FINALLY, the photographer is in place. They make their way back to the beach like waddling penguins, side by side… the ring still unseen in Jeff’s back pocket. A few more selfies were taken on the beach, near the photographer, and this was the signal! The photographer swooped in, offering a photo from a real camera, emailed later… for free. JEFF WAS SOLD! After a few smiles, a side hug, and an impromptu back-to-back pic, Jeff was on one knee and had the hidden ring presented. Maria was very shocked, and then came the tears of joy. Jeff had to wait a moment and ask Maria if that was a “Yes!!”. It was a Yes! and the beautiful moment was captured for Maria Alejandra and Jeff to remember for the rest of their lives.

A finales de Mayo de este año, Maria Alejandra y Jeff viajaron a un paraíso llamado Maui (una de las siete islas que conforman Hawai), exactamente a un lugar llamado Ironwoods Beach, Kapalua. Durante su estadía de siete días, ellos querían conocer los sitios turísticos más conocidos de la isla. Sin embargo, Jeff tenia otros planes. Al tercer día del viaje que fue un miercoles, Jeff invitó a Maria Alejandra a cenar, pero antes le dijo que iban a ver el atarcer en una de las playas mas icónicas de la isla. Estando en la playa, Jeff llevó a Maria Alejandra a recorrer un camino rocoso para luego desender en la arena de la playa. En ese momento Maria Alejandra se preguntó varias cosas: ¿Por qué Jeff no está apurado para llegar temprano a la reserva del restaurante? ¿Por qué estamos caminando por un sendero con rocas y vestidos semi-formal? Luego, apareció un fotografo en la playa que se encontraba aparentemente trabajando, pero la verdad es que todo fue previamente planeado entre el fotógrafo y Jeff. Al descender a la playa, el fotografo nos ofreció realizar unas tomas completamente gratis, algo que nunca sucede. Maria Alejandra, muy entusiasmada aceptó las tomas “gratis” y con Jeff se ubicaron en las posiciones asigandas por el fotógrafo (espalda con espalda). Al cabo de siete segundos, cuando todo estuvo en silencio, Maria Alejandra decidió mirar hacia atrás para entender qué sucedía... Lo que vió es una historia para contar y compartir por el resto de sus vidas con sus familias y amigos.
