Sayulita is about 45 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport. You can get there several different ways. Please reach out to us if you would like more detailed information. + Shuttle - will update with shuttle company we use + Taxi Cab + Uber + Bus IMPORTANT NOTE: After exiting customs you walk through an area where several companies try to get you to purchase transportation. They can be very persistent. We suggest you make your way through that area without interacting with anyone. If you use the transportation service we recommended the driver will be waiting OUTSIDE the airport glass doors with your name on a poster. They usually communicate via text/whatsapp as well and can tell you where to go.
Most the time all are accepted, but many businesses in Sayulita (shops, restaurants, taxi companies) only take cash, and prefer Pesos. If you can pay with card, it will charge you a bit more. There is a bank in Sayulita as well as ATMs around town but you will get a better exchange rate at your bank in the states. We suggest bringing Pesos from the states, and then using ATMs if you need to pull out more cash. PRO ATM TIP: When you’re at the ATM, first thing it will ask you is to accept the service charge - usually around 30 pesos ($1.53) press Accept. Then it will offer you an opportunity to convert your USD to Pesos at THEIR rate. It’s an awful rate, decline. You’ll still receive your Pesos, but at your banks daily rate. You can also do an exchange in the airport but again the exchange rate will be higher than if you exchange in the states prior.
We highly recommend renting a golf cart to cruise around the city! it's fun and affordable. We have golf cart companies listed in the lodging/transportation section. There are also taxi's, Ubers and shuttles available in the city.
Please only drink bottled water! Our stomachs are not used to the water in Mexico. Showering/brushing your teeth is okay, just be mindful of swallowing the sink water. We typically get a separate water bottle to brush our teeth with, just to be safe.
