When Lyndsay was a sophomore at R. A. Long High School, she was instantly involved with the theatre department, stage managing half a dozen shows, directing Arsenic and Old Lace, and starring in The Diary of Anne Frank and The Fantasticks. The head of the fly department (in a vaudeville theatre with a mezzanine and 800-ish seats in the house--no easy gig) was a trenchcoat-wearing, book-loving, sword-collecting sweetheart of a nerd almost a foot taller than her, and for over two years she lived very happily inside Nicholas's trenchcoat, eating lunches in the fly system, having sleepovers with the posse on her huge backyard trampoline, and talking. Nonstop. About everything. And then, Nicholas had to move away, before text messages or affordable cell phone plans or Instagrams or Bookfaces. When Lyndsay and Nicholas reconnected and she told him that she was terribly lonely, it turned out he wasn't delighted with his life either. She said, "I have two bedrooms, but I think we'd only use one." Nicholas put all his clothes and belongings in black trash bags and drove 3,500 miles in 3&1/2 days, sleeping in his car. He claims to have been "highly motivated." They haven't been apart at all since--even times when Lyndsay was in the hospital and didn't realize her modern feminist queer ally unicorn-loving brave brilliant knight was there next to her. On the anniversary of June 24th, 2021, when Nicholas crashed out in an epic mutual nap with Lyndsay after completing The Quest, he and Lyndsay will marry three years later on June 24th, 2024, having AT LONG LAST VANQUISHED THE EVIL BOONDOGGLE OF THE NYC COURT SYSTEM! And they will live ever after--together, no matter what comes. We'll figure it out.
