Lyndsay and I happened to meet through an online dating app, although we were already going to the same church (St Cecilia). Lyndsay sings in the choir, so I had never met her. We met at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, so our first date was a walk through Ault Park! This is still close to both of our homes in the Hyde Park / Oakley area. It was a rainy day, but we walked and talked for hours. Lyndsay was a little shy at first, and I tried to not be too quirky. I immediately knew that she was a special, very smart, and just an overall interesting person. I could go on and on about the things that I love about her, but that's best seen in person. Our next few dates happened quickly: another park walk, carry out dinner, hiking through a county park, and putt putt (Lyndsay is very competitive and yet she still kissed me even though I defeated her). You could say that we have been 'Quarantining Together' throughout the pandemic! Our relationship has involved a lot of quality time together building our lives together. And so the adventure continues!
Geoff and I took a week-long trip to Greenville, SC (where I used to live) and Asheville, NC. I got to show Geoff around the place I used to call home and introduce him to some good friends. We kayaked, hiked, and ate great food. We then went to Asheville for a few days for more hiking, and of course beer! Being back in the Carolinas in some ways made me feel like I never left! It was so special sharing that part of my life with Geoff. I was a little suspicious that Geoff may propose sometime during the trip. Throughout the weekend, Geoff kept asking about details for a "hypothetical" wedding. Getting only slightly impatient, I responded, "We can talk about a wedding after you put a ring on it!" To which he responded, "Well maybe the ring isn't ready..." At first I thought he was joking, but when he said it a second time I actually believed him and put any thoughts of a proposal out of my mind. On our last full day in the Asheville area, we drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway to find a few short hiking spots. The first few places we went were pretty crowded since the hikes were so short. After hiking a side trail from Mt. Mitchell, I asked if we wanted to head back to town so we could get to New Belgium Brewery before they closed. But Geoff said, "One more hike." We went a little further down the Parkway to Crabtree Falls, and enjoyed a massive waterfall for a while. I was getting antsy and kept asking if he was ready to go, but every time I asked he said "no..." (he was perhaps a little nervous, waiting for people to get out of the way). Finally we were about to leave when he pulled the ring out of his pocket (it was, in fact, ready!), got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him! Of course I said yes! :)
