We Got Married!

It all started with covid and a bucket list destination. Being sick with Covid next to each other for over a week let us plan the perfect vacation to Ireland and an opportunity for Chris to pop the question. December 7th! The day started as a foggy, freezing, cold day. We left the comfort of our ARBNB to walk/hike 8 miles to Torc Mountain and back. We went through fog, explored Muckross House and stood in awe beneath Torc Waterfall before we started our climb up Torc Mountain. This being a more trafficked location I was afraid it would be packed and would not get a chance to be alone for the proposal. Ironically the fog and cold were on our side and the mountain top was fairly empty. As we ascended the final part to the top the last person packed up and left. We had the whole mountain top to ourselves! I wondered if I would be able to get the words out or not. While we were enjoying the mountain top view I said we should take a photo. I set up my phone and we started talking about the hike and the view. Looking back I honestly don’t know what Monica was saying only that she kept asking me questions. All I could do was fiddle with the ring in my pocket and wonder how I was going to ask, and if I would fumble with my words. A moment presented itself and so I took it. I was able to get down on one knee and ask her to marry me! After several “Are you sure’s?”, she finally said YES!! We got out our celebratory drink and enjoyed the mountain top view as fiancés. My heart finally slowed down and we climbed down the mountain and slowly made our way back into town. A 16 mile hike and engagement was celebrated with a nice dinner even though we both would have preferred a nap.
