Max and Lyn met in Nashville, TN in 2012 at Belmont University when they were college Freshmen. Lyn was sitting on Max's dorm stoop talking to a handsome Pembro (the nickname for residents of Max's all male dorm, Pembroke Hall) when Max introduced himself. This led to saying hi on campus in passing, which led to casual conversations at Belmont games and off campus soirees. Although it would be three years before their romance blossomed, Max and Lyn mutually maintained interest in each other throughout those college years, sprinkled with happy chance encounters, until the end of college loomed near and they could no longer leave the fate of their relationship to chance. Max's goofy charm quickly piqued Lyn's interest during their run ins at parties for mutual friends.
First holiday together: NYE 2016. This was also the first time Lyn met Sam and Laura and caught a glimpse into the boisterous and fun-loving Hockley family.
Lyn graduates, December 2015, and accepts a job opportunity in Hawaii. Max was incredibly supportive and wore a smile for the whole going away party.
Lyn travels to British Colombia en route to Hawaii.
Atop Mauna Kea, on the Big Island
Max's family booked him a trip to Hawaii when he graduated Belmont in May. We travelled the island for 10 days in an old CRV.
This was at a Green Sand Beach on the Big Island.
After months and months of long distance, we were both very excited and appreciative of quality time back in Nashville during the fall of 2016.
We shared candle lit dinners.
Days on the lake with friends.
Sibling nights and a growing number of nieces and nephews
And silly nights out on the town, both in Nashville and once we moved to Grand Rapids from 2017-2019.
We convinced our nephew, Will, that the birds at the zoo ate all of Max's hair and this is why he's bald now. 3 years later and this is still the story we tell.

Keeneland! Fall, 2019.
Lyn completed her Masters in Occupational Therapy in 2019. With grad school accomplished, Lyn and Max soon headed back down south...where a pandemic awaited them.
Sam and Laura's first wedding, and family vacation at Carolina Beach, summer of 2020.
Ryan and Rachel were our last in town visitors before COVID hit and the world shut down.
2020 - lots of porch sits and long walks, zoom calls with friends and family, and trying to find joy amidst this crazy pandemic.

Max proposed April 16th, 2021 with a box full of dried flowers and greenery from something Lyn wove together and gave him during their first walk together in 2015. The ring box was underneath.
We had a fancy dinner and stayed downtown for the weekend. We were now masked, vaxxed, and ENGAGED! What year.
Celebrated our engagement with fishing and a champagne toast on the boat in Michigan!
Our newest niece, Cora arrived shortly after our engagement! What a joyous time.
We do our wedding planning on Wednesdays at our favorite cafe, where we have been working our way through the dinner and dessert menus :)
