Lydia and Marquis’ love story began at Philadelphia Academies Inc. (PAI), where God brought them together in the most unexpected way. Marquis had already been with PAI for a few years, dedicating his time to empowering youth and building community. Lydia, on the other hand, was walking into the office as a candidate, interviewing for a new position in 2015. From the moment Marquis saw Lydia, he was captivated by her beauty, grace, and presence. On the day of her interview, he offered her a few encouraging words: “You’ve got this—you’re going to get the job.” Little did he know, those words weren’t just prophetic for her career—they were a glimpse into his future. Lydia got the job, and Marquis soon realized that she was more than just a talented colleague—she was the kind of woman he had always prayed for. As they worked together over the next two years, Lydia and Marquis developed a strong friendship rooted in mutual respect and shared passions. They both loved serving youth, leading their own nonprofit organizations, and helping their communities thrive. They were also both deeply rooted in their faith in Christ, which became the foundation of their growing connection. Marquis often told his closest friends and loved ones, that “She is the one,” and Lydia shared the same sentiment with those closest to her.
