Maid of Honor
Dot and Al met in 2023, and quickly bonded over their love of community. They have created many fun stories, including a late night goose chase (literally), many shared meals, and making things happen with a shoestring budget. Dot’s children, Kiera and Auggie, have brought so much joy and life to Al and Jerry’s lives. We will always be grateful to have been brought in as members of their family.
Bridesmaid
When Al entered the Grand Rapids theater scene in 2017/2018, Amanda was one of the first people they clicked with. Amanda has helped Al countless times whether with advice, a shoulder to cry on, or guidance on how to run a business and a home with a neurodivergent brain. Amanda and Al are always there to pick up the pieces for each other when things go sideways, and Al is unendingly grateful for Amanda’s friendship.
Bridesmaid
Al started sewing at 8 years old, but it wasn’t until they met Ashley that they discovered their true passion for costume design. Al was adopted as Ashley’s protégée shortly after they met in 2017, and with Ashley’s guidance, grew to make this craft into their career. Ashley is known as the Fairy Godmother of Grand Rapids to friends and loved ones, and her magic touch changed Al’s life for the better.
Bridesmaid
Al met Adrianne in 2014 at Niemeyer during both of their brief stints at the Honors College at GVSU. Adrianne helped Al to fall in love with cats, develop their own style, and introduced them to DC Comic characters. Al knows that if things get rough, no matter what, Adrianne will always be there with a care package and comfort movie. Kid Flash just needs to throw up the Batsignal, and Nightwing will answer.
Best Man
Al and Jerry have known Smith for a long time. He is one of Jerry’s dads, and adopted Al into their reenacting unit in 2013. This wedding wouldn’t have happened without him, as he coaxed Jerry for over six months to let Al know he was single. His meddling old man ways worked, and almost three years later we’re having a wedding! Smith is a wealth of knowledge, has a sparkling wit, and Al and Jerry are honored to call him Dad.
Groomsman
Alex is Al’s younger brother, and has become fast friends with Jerry. They bond over work and cars, and have supported each other through some tough times. The wedding wouldn’t be the same without Alex, and he has been incredibly helpful through this entire process.
Groomsman
Dakota has been a dear friend of Jerry’s for 16 years, and Jerry is incredibly happy to have him in his life. He is one of Jerry’s oldest and most trusted friends, and he has worked incredibly hard to get where he is. We’re thrilled to have him in the wedding!
Groomsman
A friend of the family for many years, Doyle made a large impact on Jerry growing up. He has been fantastic mentor, friend and confidant over the years, teaching Jerry many wonderful things, and the best parts of book learning and improvisation on the fly. Doyle was an example to Jerry of how to be a good and moral person, and Al and Jerry both have a huge amount of respect for him.
Head Chef, Processional Singer
AJ is a good friend and roommate to Al and Jerry. Trained as a pastry chef and with experience as Sous Chef at a catering company, AJ has generously offered to help coordinate food and make the wedding cake. He is also learning some French to sing for the ceremony! Al and Jerry are grateful for AJ’s friendship and help making this event happen!
Photographer and Bachelorette Party Coordinator
Bexx is one of Al’s dearest friends, who generously offered to photograph their wedding as a gift! Her background in event planning has proved invaluable to Al and Jerry, and they’re thrilled to have her on their team.
