It starts long ago, when a young Andrew Lutkus in Illinois meets a friend online. His name is Michael and lives in Florida. Many years later, Michael attends Florida International University for nursing school. In a stroke of incredible luck, Katie and Michael join the same study group, later becoming good friends. This chance connection was the first thread in a story they didn't yet know was being written. Years went by, and though Andrew and Michael remained close friends, their paths veered in different directions. Michael eventually moved to Houston for a nursing job, one Andrew had recommended him for. Katie, in her travel era, found herself invited by Michael to visit the city. One weekend in April, Andrew planned to go to Austin. Instead, he stayed in Houston because his friend's grandmother occupied the guest room he was supposed to stay in. Katie almost didn't go to Houston. Exhausted from a string of long shifts, every part of her body ached and having to face a flash flood at the airport, it was a probable sign to stay home. Yet, something told Katie to brave the journey. On April 15, 2023, Andrew and Katie met at Michael's apartment in Houston. The attraction was immediate. Andrew tells Katie that she has the most contagious smile. A simple compliment became the first chapter of their story.
