Lupe is a difficult person to surprise and most of the plans I had in mind weren't going to work because she would notice something was out of the ordinary. I had to plan something where she wouldn't suspect a thing. "Lupe, lets go to brunch with my parents next Sunday November 4th because they won't see you for a while since you'll be working on Thanksgiving." She agreed and the plan was in the works. I made a reservation at L' Escale in Greenwich for the big day. My parents knew the occasion and were very excited to be a part of it. My plan was to take Lupe on a waterfront walk around Harbor Point in Stamford where we always took our morning walks in the Summer. I had it all planned out and sure enough, Lupe threw a wrench into my plans. "Let's get dressed to go to brunch and then go for our walk around the waterfront" I said. "No i don't want to get all sweaty and i'm NOT wearing my booties and getting them all dirty" She said. "What are booties?" I said. I had to go with it otherwise she was going to know something was up. So we went for our walk, pre-workout drinks made, sweatpants, hats, sneakers and off we went. She was ready to go for a run now that the pre-workout was kicking in. "Not so fast babe, let's sit here on this bench for a minute, it's so nice out today!" Again, looking at me in frustration, she agreed. I reminded her of some things she has said to me over the years we've been together and how I can't imagine my life without her by my side, just like she had been, through good times and bad, highs and lows supporting me and being my best friend. I continued to get down on one knee. "What are you doing?" she asked. That's when I pulled the ring box out and reality sunk in that this wasn't a joke. "Will you Marry me?" SHE SAID YES!!!!! After the tears and surprise nerves relaxed, we went home and rushed to go to brunch. The day couldn't have been any better.
