Lupe and Lauren's paths crossed in college when they both attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the summer of 2012, Lauren saw Lupe and her friends at the Lake Mendota terrace enjoying some Spotted Cow beers. Two weeks later, Lauren had moved in. Lupe's love of life, her joy and passion were electrifying and Lauren never wanted to be far from it. And in Lauren, Lupe found someone who loved her unconditionally, for everything she was, something she had never before experienced. It was a summer of love. By August 2014, Lupe had had it with the snow and returned to Los Angeles. Lauren still had one year left to graduate so they stayed to finish, but the moment they were done, moved to Los Angeles in the spring of 2015. Even when that meant living in Lupe's mom's backhouse in Compton--a wooden backhouse just big enough to fit a queen sized bed, Lauren was ready to be with the one they loved. This is where they started building their post-college life. Lauren worked whatever job was necessary in order for Lupe to have the flexibility to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer to gain more medical experience. And together they brought home their first fur-baby, Blue Ash Wednesday in February of 2016. On February 14, 2017, Lupe and Lauren received the call that they had reached their first goal---Lupe had been accepted to medical school. As joyous as this accomplishment was, it was bittersweet because Lauren and Lupe knew they would have to separate again. Lauren was working at a children's clinic in Los Angeles so Lupe would complete her first year in Arizona before they both moved to Seattle. Halfway through the year though, Lauren made the move to Arizona to be by Lupe's side. In August 2018, with their Nissans packed to the brim with belongings and Blue, (and with poor utilization of their rear view mirrors) the couple headed north up the I-5 from Los Angeles to Seattle. They arrived at their new apartment with a sigh of relief as they had only seen it online. That little apartment, with it's magnificent view of the Cascade Mountains, saw their love grow and flourish through the challenges that came with medical school. Lauren lost some part of Lupe to her studying, her clinical rotations, or the aftermath of either two, but Lauren's love for Lupe was strong and knew how to support her through these challenging times. The pandemic came in 2020, but so did Copper West Dilwert, their second fur-baby. Medical school was wrapping and Lupe was accepted to UCSF-Fresno Family Medicine residency program. Once again, the cars were packed, but by this time a U-haul truck was needed. Back down the I-5 they went in the spring of 2021 to Fresno, California. Now that Lupe had a salary, it was time for Lauren to get a chance at finding their dream career. Lauren started working at an after-school program and realized their passion for working with children, ultimately becoming a substitute teacher for the Fresno school district. Lupe learned the worst of her medical career was not over. Residency was by far the most challenging part of the journey in becoming a doctor but their love persevered through this trying times. Now that residency is coming to an end, Lauren and Lupe are ready to say, "I do" and celebrate their love with their closest family and friends.
