Rachel and Luke first crossed paths in the wild social scene that is the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry. Luke got invited to the the parties by his long time friend Ian. As things started to return to normal after covid, Luke enjoyed being the random guy at dental school social functions. Eventually showing up enough to be known by name, and get invited on spring break trips even though he no longer had a spring break. This spring break trip was a short drive to Denver, most people growing up in Nebraska have made the drive to visit a place that is much less flat. It was on this spring break trip to Denver that Rachel and Luke first hit it off. A hockey game, continuous conversation, and a visit to a psychedelic museum later; a never ending texting thread began, and continues to this day. In the years to follow, Rachel would take refuge at Luke's house in south Lincoln to get away from dental school, and Luke continued to be a dental student in every way that was unimportant. Leading them to move down to Carthage, Missouri when Rachel started her big girl job. Living in Carthage, Rachel and Luke would take regular trips to Kansas City. One particular weekend Rachel had to go for some continuing education, and Luke decided to tag along to make it a long weekend. They toured the Nelson Atkins art museum for the first time. A surprisingly busy day at the museum, with a wedding and prom happening. They had just about covered every square foot of the Nelson Atkins property, when Luke found a secluded brush area with a canopy of trees and asked Rachel to marry him. With the small crowd of a passing prom picture group, Rachel gave a resound YES.
