Great place for a stroll along Mirror Lake. Lots of local stores, cafes, and sights. For the more ambitious, you can continue all the way around Mirror Lake (approximately a 2.5 mile walk, very flat) for views of the town and surrounding mountains.
Runs Saturday from 9 am - 1 pm. Cute farmer's market right on the water in Saranac Lake. Some of our favorite food options here are the tamales, fresh sourdough bread, and iced coffee. Plenty of great local artists and artisans here as well!
Best ice cream in town! Our favorite is the oatmeal raisin cookie sandwich with maple ice cream.
A short hike (2.5 miles) with great views from the top! Parking can be crowded on weekends and there is a fee to park in the lot. Alternatively, you can park about one mile down the road for free.
Another short hike (2.5 miles) with a great view at the top. Less elevation change than on Mount Jo.
Newer, well-maintained trail with great fall foliage views. Starts at the Olympic Training Center at Mount Van Hoevenberg. This may be impacted by the bike race - there is an alternate trailhead if the parking is crowded or closed at the base area.
If anyone wants to start their journey towards becoming a famous "46er" (hiking all of the tallest 4000' mountains in New York State), these are considered the easiest ones to get you started! A moderate hike with more exposure than some of the other hikes on this list but worth the view at the top!
Drive to the top of one of the tallest mountains in New York State! Fee is required to access the road. Depending on the mountain bike activities, access to the road may be impacted.
Great brewery with a really good food menu!
Fun vibe, right downtown. Ubu Ale is a must try!
Best coffee in town! Everything we have ever tried here has been great
