Best Man
My younger (but not shorter) brother, Jackson. Jackson and I are three years apart, and despite being older, Jackson has taught me a lot about hunting and fishing. I can still pin him with ease. My best memory with Jackson was when we backpacked across the Northern Coast of Colombia one Christmas vacation. Fun Fact: As children, Jackson and I once went to the Emergency Room for head trauma on two consecutive days.
Best Man
"When I first met Luke, we didn't get along too well. I think it may be our (at least as they are described by others) "strong" personalities. Despite putting each other on a short list of people we would NOT want to live abroad with during our semester abroad, we ended up in the same apartment together in Greece. Now a few years later, I am in his wedding and he was in mine."
Maid of Honor
Allie is the oldest of the three Krumel girls. Formerly known as Bugsy, she always let me get away with the youngest card. The two of us once got lost trying to drive to Dairy Queen right after she got her license--we ended up in a field of cows. When I think of what she's taught me, two things come immediately to mind: that feelings matter, and that writing is a powerful way to do good in the world.
Maid of Honor
Jamie is the middle girl in the Krumel household. As Allie likes to remind us, the two of us played Littlest Pet Shop together until we were far too old. In Jamie's defense, she was just making her little sister happy. Jamie has taught me a lot about self-confidence and ambition. I think it's because of her that I know exactly what it can look like to grow and stay true to yourself at the same time.
Groomsman
Luke and I became friends sophomore year of college and our friendship was first built on two pillars; first, I taught Luke how to throw heavy things for fun (re: track and field) and second we were both English majors and enjoyed casual rhetorical analysis while our other friends rolled their eyes. In the years since, our friendship has evolved from track meet talks and peer review sessions to roommate banter and deep life discussions. Today, I consider him one of the most genuine people I know and one of my closest friends.
Groomsman
From the moment I met Luke on the Boundary Waters canoeing trip before college, I was certain of two things: first, Luke and I would need to be friends forever since we're both Packer fans. I didn't want to suffer in Viking territory alone. Second, Luke is one of the nicest, most friendly people I've ever met. I later learned a third thing: Luke becomes one of the scariest people you'll ever meet if you throw a pizza on his bed while he is sleeping.
Groomsman
"In the lead for listening to Luke snore in the most countries (10). Luke acted as my personal bodyguard while studying abroad, even though he is a big softie with the biggest heart. Our theme song is I Fall Apart by Post Malone."
Groomsman
Paul and I met through mutual friends in college, and we grew closer during sophomore year. I also had the chance to visit Paul while he was studying abroad in Austria with Maddie, Yacob (Usher), and Abigail (Bridesmaid). Senior year, Paul was also a "Pool Boy," as he lived with Woz, Pat, Jason (all groomsmen) and me in the Pool House in St. Joseph. Paul loves to destroy me in any video game and he is just as passionate about Minnesota sports as I am Wisconsin sports.
Bridesmaid
Sarah and I went to high school together - but we weren't friends. It wasn't until college that we learned what we had been missing out on. We've been making up for lost time ever since with sleepovers, sand volleyball, puppy chow, and an open-closet policy. From Sarah, I learned how to make a bomb playlist, to hug your friends more, and to always take photo and the spontaneous trip.
Bridesmaid
Abigail and my friendship had a solid foundation, but it really blossomed when we studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria together. She has the kindest smile and the best laugh - she's also sassy when you least expect it. Phone calls with Abigail have been a godsend since we both started the long road to our PhDs. Because of her, I know what a nematode is, how to ask better questions, and what it looks like to really invest in your friends.
Bridesmaid
Sara and I can both read each other's thoughts and explain the process behind them (thank you to the English department and the Enneagram). She brings out the best in whoever she is around. Depending on who you ask, Sara may or may not have played an instrumental role getting Luke and I together. Through Sara, I saw a Twins game from the front row, what it looks like to be confident and humble, and how beautiful it is to marry your best friend (hi, Michael!).
Bridesmaid
Leah was one of my first college friends. She is the best roommate, listener, and supporter around - and she LOVES love. I aspire to have even an ounce of the grace and poise she had on her July 2019 wedding day. Leah taught (and teaches) me that a calm space helps to create a calm mind, we can nourish ourselves with more than food, and that it's always a good idea to call your mom.
Honor Attendant
Karlie and I were born four months apart - we've been close since March of 1997. Thank goodness our moms are sisters, because no one makes me laugh harder. Our proudest moment was when we decided to spread strawberry frosting on a Nutter-Butter. Our luckiest moment was when a family reunion somehow turned into a bonus high school graduation party for the '97 Pfeifer/Ramaekers babies. I still wear a pair of the Nike shorts she left at my house in seventh grade. Karlie continues to teach me about leadership, priorities, and the importance of loving your family.
Honor Attendant
Ava isn't a baby anymore, but let me tell you, she was the world's cutest one. Like Karlie, Ava is my cousin, but after a few summers living in Minnesota together, she feels like more. She is strong, ambitious, and more driven than any seventeen-year-old I've ever met. Ava once accomplished a never-before-seen feat and turned me into a runner. I've learned from Ava that the best friends are family, you can make it to four miles (even if you collapse at the end), and that goals are meant to be reached.
Honor Attendant
Katherine is Luke's youngest sister. The two of them have their own secret language made up of quotes from memes and TikToks. I can't participate in these conversations, but I like to listen. She's one of the few people on Earth who can match Luke's quick wit and dark humor - but she's way cooler. I haven't learned yet, but Katherine promised to teach me how to do my makeup. Beyond that, I've learned about confidence, perseverance, and the importance of Jimmy John's spirit wear.
Honor Attendant
Allison is the oldest and most athletic Olley. She's always been so kind and welcoming - and so willing to help me critique Luke's fashion sense. She is one of those people with far too many talents: basketball, volleyball, coaching, algebra, painting, teaching, gift-giving, yoga, dog training...you name it. She's my source for all the funny childhood stories about Luke. From her, I've learned about dedication, the importance of mental and physical strength, and that every dog should wear a Halloween costume.
Usher
Connor is possibly the best friend a person could have, and I (Maddie) was lucky enough to meet him in high school. Connor is funny, kind, generous, and selfless. The only qualm I have is that, whenever he has free time, he goes far away: to Spain, to Ireland, to Chile, to wherever makes it difficult to hang out with him. Despite his tendency to plan international getaways, Connor is always there for his friends. He knows how to make anyone and everyone feel important and valued. He's taught me to trust myself as well as others, to get out of my comfort zone, and to see the best in everyone around me.
Usher
Yacob and Luke first met on Mary 2 during their freshmen year of college at Saint John's. They quickly developed a symbiotic relationship: Luke would proofread Yacob's paper, and Yacob would provide Chipotle. Both parties were better off for it. Luke and Yacob were also members of the Benedictine Volunteer Corps, and they ended up living down the street from one another in St. Louis Park
Usher
Maddie and Owen are first cousins, and Luke got to know him while she lived with the Woods in the Summer of 2020, back when Luke and Maddie started dating. Luke and Owen share a love of fishing and late night frozen taquito snacks. Maddie would like to avoid all conflict and future Owen sass by saying that Owen ties with Ava for the cutest baby award.
Usher
Drew and Luke met on Collegebound, but technically he and Maddie were in the same climbing group, so they met first. The boys bonded after realizing that Drew was taught by Luke's uncle in grade school. Despite looking very different physiologically, Drew and Luke were teammates on the Saint John's Track and Field team--Drew was a national champion, and Luke was a Third Flight Grinder (scrub). Luke and Drew both share a love of anime, Asian food, and cooking.
