Lydia and Luke met at Union University in the fall of 2020 in an undergraduate research class. Lydia was enrolled in the class as a student, while Luke was helping the professor as teacher’s assistant. A couple weeks into the class, Lydia went home and told her family she had met her husband! Lydia had recognized Luke’s intellect and admired his kind nature. However, to her family’s surprise, Lydia had yet to speak to this future husband! She just knew! During this time, Lydia had also caught Luke’s eye with her work ethic and bubbly personality. In the following weeks, Lydia would always make a point to give Luke a passing “hello” or “see ya later” in class. Passing greetings turned into conversations and walks to class. Luke asked Lydia on a casual coffee date which turned into a three hour conversation about their life goals, greatest accomplishments, and beliefs. The couple was pleasantly surprised at how closely their values aligned! That conversation spurred on many more heartfelt dates. On December 3rd, 2020, Luke was accepted to University of Memphis for graduate school and the couple made it official! Soon after, Lydia was also accepted to University of Memphis for graduate school. From the beginning, the couple had always known that this relationship was one that was going to last a lifetime. Early on both agreed agreed that they were serious about each other’s futures and that marriage was the ultimate goal. During November 2021 Luke spent Thanksgiving with Lydia and her family on a trip to Gatlinburg. If you know Lydia and Luke, you know a cabin in the mountains is their favorite place to be! On November 26th the travelers went out for pictures in Cade’s Cove. Little did Lydia know, Luke had been to this park months before to pick out the perfect proposal spot and the rest is history!
