How We Met (spoiler, it was online!)

Like true millennials, Liz and Luke met online (thanks, Hinge!) For their first date, Liz and Luke met for a beer at Luka's Taproom & Lounge (Oakland folks will know about this legendary, old-school spot). Luckily, that first date was only slightly awkward, topics included: siblings, Spain, backpacking in South America, regenerative agriculture, and mixed martial arts. Despite a nervous comment by Luke that he didn’t “enjoy” music, both decided that the night was good enough to merit a second date. A few more drinks, a couple of dinners, and a global pandemic, Luke moved across the Bay to Oakland. The rest, as they say, is history! In June 2022, Liz and Luke will be moving to the Land Park neighborhood of Sacramento, where they have purchased a duplex with Liz’s sister and brother-in-law.

For folks we haven’t met (thanks, COVID), some background:

Liz

Raised in Sacramento, Liz grew up in a large, blended family with her sister Hannah, step siblings Ananda, Reese, & Alex, her mother Ann, father Peter, and step-parents Kevin & Daisy. Liz was also close with her extended family - grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins galore! Liz’s childhood was filled with outdoor adventures, friends, music, and art. After high school and a backpacking trip to Europe, Liz attended UC Santa Cruz and majored in Womens Studies. She then moved to the Bay Area and worked in a variety of professions before landing on her passion: social work. Liz went back to school and in 2018, graduated from UC Berkeley with a Masters Degree. She obtained her LCSW (license in clinical social work) in 2021 and currently works at UCSF Medical Center. While it has been a wonderful 11 years in Oakland, Liz is excited to move to Sacramento with Luke and Felix (their dog). She looks forward to starting a new job (without a 2 hour commute), spending more time with Sacramento-family, and reconnecting with old friends.

Luke

Luke grew up in Santa Barbara with older brother (Cole), younger sister (Raine), and parents (Mike & Mary Jane) in a house they built themselves perched atop a mountain in Los Padres National Forest. Childhood consisted of soccer, snowboarding, camping and lots of travel (with 2 public school teachers as parents, summers were always spent somewhere). After attending UC Davis (go Ags!), Luke moved to San Francisco to work in technology (shocker) before discovering a deep fascination with health and nutrition. He earned his nutritional consultant certification from Bauman College in 2019 and is planning on becoming board certified in holistic nutrition later this year. In Sacramento, Luke is looking forward to to the mountains and trails of Lake Tahoe, continuing his Brazilian jiu-jitsu journey, the joys of home ownership with Liz, Hannah, James, & Mateo, and creating a new community of friends and family, also, having a backyard.
