Our Story

Luke and Emily met when they were 10 years old in the town of New Market, Virginia. They were in the same class from 5th grade all the way through college graduation. In middle school, they were simply acquaintances (gender segregation was brutal) and, in high school, they became friends. With many mutual friends and shared activities and interests, their senior year they decided to become more than friends. With college on the horizon, they dated for a brief 3 months before going back to just friends. At Southern, they dated other people and spent this time growing closer to God and more confident in the people they wanted to be. Following graduation, Luke accepted a job teaching math in Maryland and Emily stayed in Chattanooga to begin Physical Therapy school. Fast forward 2 years, to the wedding of Steven (best man) and Lachelle. Luke and Emily were finally both single at the same time and both enjoyed being able to reconnect with an old friend. A few weeks later, Luke visited Chattanooga for MLK weekend. They saw each other for church, lunch, and a movie night with friends. Luke made a point of remembering that Emily would be in Washington, D.C. at the end of the month for a PT conference and made plans to see her again. Emily planned to go to church and lunch with Luke and Randy (groomsman). When Randy *conveniently* got sick, it was just the two of them. The sermon was on love and relationships (Luke remembers thinking "God, are you trying to tell me something?") At lunch, they were able to catch up on each other's lives. They both say it felt so comfortable... like coming home. After a week or so of back and forth texting, Luke made his intentions known. About a month later, during Emily's spring break, they decided to officially pursue a relationship. Then, after a couple of months of long distance, God found Luke a job in Collegedale, TN. Finally, after 9 months of dating and 15 years of friendship, He asked, and she said ABSOLUTELY!

COVID-19 update

Dear friends and family, In light of recent events, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our wedding celebration until further notice. Your health and safety are our top priority. We wish you and your loved ones all the best during this time. With that being said, Luke and I are thrilled to begin our lives together and, to quote When Harry Met Sally, "when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." Therefore, we have decided to proceed with a small wedding ceremony that will take place Friday, April 10, 2020 at 6 pm. If you are reading this message, then you have held a special place in our lives and we want to share this moment with you. We will be streaming our wedding ceremony live on Facebook for those interested in attending. Wait, "what about our dancing shoes?" you ask. Well, hold on to those! We still want to celebrate in person with all of you as soon as possible! We plan to hold a wedding vow renewal and reception when all of this social distancing is over and it is safe to do so. If you would like to send us a wedding gift, our address is 7420 Hamilton Run Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421. We are registered at Amazon, Pottery Barn, and Target. Stay tuned for more information on how to view our ceremony and for details on date/time of a reception.
