We have known each other all the way back since high school, but it took a lot longer than that for us to really find each other. We grew up playing games of DnD and sharing classes, and when we graduated we were just friends. The day came for us to move away to school and we each went our separate ways; Dani to UCI and me at UCSD. We weren't the closest in those days, but by chance of college admissions we ended up being only a short distance apart. With our friends and family too far away for us to visit as often, instead the two hour train trip between Irvine and San Diego brought the two of us together. We traveled back and forth on it many a time, and every semester we spent the long ride back home together. After our first year when we finally came back home for the summer, we had both spent our time at college missing our old friends. We desperately wanted to hang out with everyone, so I set up a big plan for all our friends to go out and get together. It turned out that nobody else was free, but we didn't let that ruin our fun. We followed through with the plan and spent a whole summer's day at the lake together. We talked and we swam and we split some soggy packed sandwiches and an ice cream sundae. We had so much fun that we stayed until the sun had set, and then we stayed even longer just to watch the stars together. We had had our first date and we didn't even realize what it was until the next day, when we texted each other to confirm that we had actually been on an unintentional date and not just a hangout with friends. We hadn't planned on it, but we both agreed that it had been perfect. We fell in love doing that again and again, and after eight long years I finally asked Danielle to marry me.
