We have reminisced and rehashed the beginning of our story numerous times. Each time brings much laughter and gratitude. Our story started because of two of the very best, Blake and Emilee Hansen! Emilee, Callie’s coworker and Blake, Luke's boss at the time. Walking out of church one Sunday morning Luke ran into the Hansens', said hey to Blake, and met Emilee and their kids for the first time. Afterwards, Emilee told Blake that they should try to set the two of us up. By Monday morning, Emilee had asked to share Callie’s number with Luke and through much encouragement from Emilee, Blake sent a few "Teams" messages during the work day. By Monday night, Luke had sent a text asking to call and chat(green flag for sure). That evening, we talked for 10-15 minutes about work and life and families and it ended with Luke proposing a date. After we talked, Callie wrote in her journal a few small things she wanted to remember to ask more about the next time they talked. Things like details about Luke’s siblings, community group, what his job looked like, etc. Callie says, “At the beginning of a quick prayer I jotted down I wrote, "Luke Bennett.. A name that may or may not mean something to me someday." Boy am I glad that that name means so much to me now.” The next week, Luke picked her up for the date. At Dave & Busters he let her win at air hockey- mistake number one :), and he did win fair and square in pop a shot. In the last year and a half since then we’ve spent time trying new things together like going to cooking classes, painting and pottery. We also love the simple day to day things like taking walks after dinner and going bowling and playing pickleball with our friends. Our love is one that has taken time and patience, but is one of the things we are most proud of. We often talk about how excited we are to start and spend our lives together, but there are even more times that we talk about alllll of the people who have helped us get to this place. If you are reading this, then you have played a part in either one or both of our lives. We are so grateful for your contribution to who we are. Our prayer moving forward is that the love of Jesus would be clear through the way we live our lives. That in our union we will humbly sacrifice for each other the way Jesus did, we will serve without seeking recognition, and that we will give generously so that others can experience the grace and provision of our Savior.
