Lanikūhonua is located on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu, between the Ewa and Waiʻanae moku (district), the area was once the beloved vacationing home for the 15th ruling chief of ancient Oʻahu, Chief Kākuhihewa. Today, the land is the responsibility of the James Campbell Company, who continues the legacy of Alice Kamokilaikawai Campbell, daughter of well-known business and community leaders, James and Abigail Kuaihelani Maipinepine Campbell. In 1939, Kamokila, as she was commonly known, chose this beachfront property as her home. Her home included a thatched Hawaiian hale (house) within the lush, tropical surroundings. She named this place Lanikūhonua, “Where Heaven Meets the Earth.” Throughout her life, Kamokila dedicated Lanikūhonua as a place to celebrate cultural traditions of Hawaiʻi. Like her parents, Kamokila knew that caring for the land’s resources would provide a better environment and a better quality of life for Hawaiʻi’s people.
