We met in the 8th grade. At a birthday party at New Castle Beach. The same place that Sam would eventually propose... Fast forward to high school junior year chemistry class (yes, chemistry - Sam jokes about it all the time :) We remained close after meeting in the 8th grade and went to the same high school starting in 9th. We were good friends and had a few classes together freshman and sophomore year. But it was in that chemistry class that it aaaalll changed. For those that don't know the story the quick run down goes like this - it was a few days before Sam's mom's birthday, he asked for some "womanly" advice in going to pick out a gift (could have just asked me on a date!!) I told him I'd go with him to help. We went through Downtown Portsmouth after school and quickly found a gift for his mom. He offered to take me to lunch with the time we had left before he had to go back to school for football practice. We went to a bagel shop (he paid) and we sat and talked for hours - very cliché but true. He had to drop me off at home since he had to get back to school for practice and since this wasn't "technically" a date he parked in my driveway, turned to me and said "thanks for the help, see you tomorrow punk" and offered me his fist... for a fist bump. We awkwardly fist bumped and I got out of the car thinking I had surely been friend zoned right there and then. Few awkward high school days later, Sam finally asked me on a proper first date and took me to dinner and the movies. Promptly following the movie he asked, "Sooo, do you want to be my girlfriend?" To which he claimed he didn't even get the full sentence out before I very quickly said "yes" and it has been Sam & Aud ever since.
