Luis and Marti met on OkCupid in 2015, but almost met numerous times in their lives. 1986. Luis and Marti were born in Grant Hospital four months apart to the day. When Marti was born, her parents were living in Andersonville and Luis' mom worked 3 blocks away. As babies, Luis and Marti frequented the same playgrounds, feminist bookstores, and bakeries. They were loving rolled and toddled down the same streets for the first years of their lives. 2008. During college, Luis got to know his friend Wayne's sketch comedy group at Columbia College. This group included members Gus Menary and Ryan Bourque, who became founding members of Jackalope Theatre Company and the Inconvenience, respectively. Marti, just returning to the city after college, began directing theatre and quickly fell in with Jackalope Theatre Company and the Inconvenience. 2014. Marti had several collaborators who were friends with political hopeful, Will Guzzardi. This same year, Will won his State Representative seat and Luis became his chief of staff. Marti and Luis have tracked back to this year and believe they attended several of the same parties without ever meeting. 2015. After the first date, Marti and Luis reached out to friend Gus Menary. Gus not only vouched for each to the other but said about the soon-to-be couple, “That sounds like the beginning of a dynasty.” 2021. Luis and Marti don’t believe in fate, but can’t deny that it certainly seems they were meant to encounter each other.
