SALT LAKE CITY: 50 minute drive. Lots to do here. The Utah State Capitol cherry trees & garden will be blossoming. Temple Square is nearby & a common tourist area. For shopping, there's City Creek Mall, the Maven District, Trolley Square, & 9th&9th (which is next to the high school filmed for "High School Musical"). Some good food includes Monsieur Crepes for breakfast; Tacos Don Rafa along State St. for cheap, yummy food; & Freshie's Lobsters has melt in your mouth lobster rolls, but they are pricey. Recommended bars include Beer Bar, A Bar Named Sue, & Melancholy. SALT FLATS: 2 hour drive. This white expanse is a remnant of the ancient Lake Bonneville, which covered a third of Utah before it dried up, leaving a thick crust of salt. Fun fact, Davy Jones Locker from Pirate's of the Caribbean was filmed here. GOLDEN SPIKE NATIONAL MONUMENT: 1 hour drive. Where the last spike was placed, completing the first U.S. transcontinental railroad.
