You know those stories that sound like they were pulled straight from a movie? Well, that’s sort of how our story begins. On a bright and sunny Tuesday in May at the end of Hannah’s sophomore and Luis’ junior year of college at Cal State Fullerton, the two found themselves on Catalina Island for the end of year Sigma Nu formal. They had never met, but had many mutual friends. After an afternoon swimming in the hotel pool sipping margaritas, the two were absolutely famished. Hannah decided she was going to look for a buddy to walk to town with her to find a bite to eat but could not find anyone interested. She was about to give up and grab a protein bar from her hotel room when she suddenly stumbled across the most incredible smile she had ever laid her eyes on. This beautiful-smile owner was, of course, Luis. They exchanged pleasantries and settled on a taco shop just 15 minutes walk down the road. Luis being an avid taco-lover already knew he liked this girl’s taste and happily paid for the bill upon arrival. Hannah suggested that they take their tacos to the beach and eat them there, to which Luis agreed. After only a couple of bites, the liquid courage still running through their veins from the day’s earlier margaritas whispered to them “Go for a swim in the ocean!” They abandoned their half eaten tacos and jumped in the freezing Pacific waters, clothes and all. Little did water-baby Hannah know that Luis was absolutely terrified of the ocean. By the time they got back to their taco spot on the sand, the seagulls had demolished their food. Alas, what could they do but return to the hotel? They walked back with the sun starting to set behind them, chatting and laughing the entire time. They exchanged SnapChats and then Luis dropped Hannah off at her hotel room before returning to his own, but not before he sneakily managed to snatch Hannah’s sunglasses. The entire rest of the weekend, Luis was seen around the island wearing her white and gold frames and charmingly refusing to return them. By the time the two had returned to Orange County, their Snapchat conversations were lengthy and plans had already been made to see each other again. To return Hannah’s glasses, of course. ;)
