Seven years ago, I walked into one of my teaching classes at ISU and sat down next to Lizzie—easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made (right up there with buying those black sparkly UGG boots). She complimented them, and just like that, we were making weekend plans. From that moment on, Lizzie wasn’t just my first friend at ISU—she quickly became my best friend, my college soulmate, and the person who made ISU feel like home. To this day, I’m beyond grateful to have a friend as kind, supportive, and trustworthy as Lizzie—someone who can make anyone laugh. My first memory with Lizzie was from a night out in college. We instantly bonded over our love to dance. I remember thinking to myself on the dance floor, “está muchacha es de mucho ambiente.” I also remember being intrigued at how authentic she was. One thing about Lizzie, she will say what’s on her mind lol. Flash forward to now, seven years later, this dancing queen has become one of my best friends. Bro! You’re one of my closest friends and one that matches my energy anytime, without a doubt. There are so many memories to look back on, but the best were our years at ISU. Between house parties, coming home hella late from the bars, cooking, climbing through windows, quiet time for homework and studying, or watching Netflix on the couch, I couldn’t have asked to have anyone else by our side for these shenanigans. Never would have thought I would meet a complete stranger that would end up becoming a lifelong friend at the gym. A great friendship that became even stronger in college. It's Jaboi!✌ My cousin Luis and I go all the way back to our first High School days. And ever since then, I've proudly watched him grow into the man that he is today. He's been a great part of my life here in the States, and I will forever be grateful to him for that. One of the fondest memories I have of him is when he visited me back when i was servicing the Army. I remember inviting him over for walk on a 1-mile steep mountain trail incline in Colorado. This will mark my first and only time I bested him physically for sure. But to my surprise, he successfully managed to complete the challenge without any formal military training. And that deserves a gold medal in it of itself. Just don't ever ask me to do that again 😅
