From Chance to Choice

Luie grew up in Cornwall, and Sara grew up in Maine, two coastal areas an ocean apart. Sara had always dreamed of seeing the world, so during her second year at The University of Southern Maine, she studied abroad in London. After her year abroad, she transferred to The University of Westminster in London to study Music Business, a choice that turned out to be more life-changing than she realized at the time. One night at the student bar, she found herself playing pool with friends when she met Luie, who worked at the university as an audio technician. Surrounded by mutual friends, the two fell into effortless conversation. A few weeks later, Sara mentioned she couldn’t find a vintage shop in central London that Luie had told her about. He (very cleverly) offered to take her himself. What they thought might be a quick outing turned into a seven-hour first date. Vintage shopping, drinks, dinner at a casual spot, ‘The Breakfast Club’, and finally live music at ‘The Blues Kitchen’. That was the beginning. A few years later, they realized a visa would be required for them to stay together in the UK, and in December 2017, they chose to legally marry. Despite experiencing periods of visa-related separation, they never allowed these challenges to stand in the way of their relationship. They made the most of their time in London by seeing friends and family, enjoying live music and sports whenever possible. They also travelled throughout Europe, gathering lasting memories from each place they visited. Now, as they build a new life in the United States, they look forward to exploring the rest of the world together. Their story began with chance, strengthened through distance, and grew into a love rooted in resilience, adventure, and continually choosing one another.
