Our Story
It Begins

Firewood, Oreos, and Sheryl Crow. The start to any good love story. We met on a summer night in June 2020. Marty had recently moved in with two friends and had been hearing, "We can't believe you haven't met our friend Lucy yet!" for weeks. That was all to change at a Pride Party bonfire on Golden Gardens beach in Ballard. At some point in the night, someone turned to Marty and said, "go help Lucy, she just arrived and is carrying firewood." Marty didn't know who he was looking for but as he jogged down the beach he saw someone he really hoped would be Lucy. His suspicions were confirmed when she greeted him and eagerly handed over her heavy bundles of firewood. The rest of the night we kept catching each other's eyes but neither of us made a move. On the car ride home, Marty's roommate encouraged him to go for it. A plan was hatched to invite Lucy to the house when "Marty might be home." Finally we exchanged numbers and Marty invited Lucy on their first date in the height of the pandemic - an Oreo and beer pairing on his patio. The entire evening was a dream and Marty knew Lucy was someone special when she put on a Sheryl Crow playlist and we danced together in the living room.
Love Blooms

We quickly realized our shared interest in books, flowers, long road trips singing in the car, and our shared values and desire to enjoy life. Lucy fell in love with Marty's joy and creativity. Marty fell in love with Lucy's warmth and the way she makes everyone feel welcomed and at ease. Over our years together, we have supported each other through career changes, culinary school adventures, and some of life's most difficult moments. Our love continues to grow as we enjoy traveling, exploring our home state of Washington, and crossing off countless breweries with beer and book dates. (138 and counting!) Through it all, we feel so lucky to have chosen each other, and we can confidently say we know where the best trees and flowers are in Seattle.
Our Engagement

On September 28, 2024, Marty proposed to Lucy at Ruby Beach on Washington's Olympic Coast. We could not have been luckier as the sun started shining right when Lucy said yes! Long before our engagement, on a day trip north of Seattle, we stumbled upon Semiahmoo Spit and joked about maybe one day tying the knot there. When it came time to start planning, we decided to commit and be married at Semiahmoo Resort to share the beauty of the Pacific Northwest with our friends and family. We hope you will bask in the beaches, trees, and bird sightings of this place and feel the same sense of wonder that we do. We are so excited to share a weekend full of fun, whimsy, and presence with you to celebrate our love and the love we have for all of you. And if we are lucky, there will be plenty of firewood, Oreos, and Sheryl Crow to keep everyone going!
