Things To Do

We did this tour and it was super fun (not recommended for people with claustrophobia).  You take a guided adventure through a cenote and water cave system.

Rio Secreto Cenote

The Tulum Archeological zone is about a 1hr drive from Playa del Carmen. This used to be a Mayan port, and the ruins are up on a small cliffside with an amazing view.

Xcaret is a group of theme parks and experiences in the area. The parks are beautiful and have something for everyone, a fun place to bring kids and family.

The Chichén Itzá ruins are a 2.5 hour drive from Playa del Carmen. The whole complex is really amazing and worth the day trip. Stop at Valladolid on the way back for a nice meal in a cute colonial town.
