How We Met

We met at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in the 1st grade and we remained friends all throughout Sunday School. After the last year of Sunday School, the summer before our 12th grade year, he messaged me and we began talking back and forth until he set up a date. He came and picked me up, and we went to eat at Newk's in Hattiesburg, from there came many more dates.

The Proposal

January 13, 2018

The day started out pretty normal. I was planning on having a girls' day with Heather and Kristen, and Lucas was planning on going hunting with his friend, Jamie Boss. I got ready for the day, then met with Heather & Kristen. We went and got our nails painted at the mall, shopped around, and ate at Olive Garden. While I was with my friends and thinking that Lucas was "hunting," he was actually putting together the final details at the engagement location. My friends and I went back to my apartment and when we walked in, I found that Lucas had left a note on the dining room table. The note said to start getting ready, he had already picked out my outfit and left it on my bed, and that my friends would take me where I was supposed to go. After anxiously getting ready, my friends took me to my aunt & uncle's old house. I was confused, nervous, and excited all at the same time. I walked to the back of the house and saw tons of string lights. I followed the path that he had created, that led me all the way down to him by the lake. Once I got to him, I knew that he had not been hunting that day at all, but instead making sure that everything went perfectly for me. He got down on one knee and asked, "Mary Caitlin Lawler, will you marry me?" Ecstatically, I stated, "YES!" He told me that he had one more surprise for me, so we left headed towards his parent's house. I noticed the all familiar cars in the driveway and walked in to the most perfect engagement party.
