Lucas and I met online through Facebook Dating. For me, it was something I'd never done. I had never been on a dating app or gone on a date with someone I didn't know previously. To say I was nervous is an understatement. We talked over the phone for a week before our first date at Heidi's in Smithfield. The closer I got to the restaurant, the more nervous and anxious I got. Somehow I convinced myself to continue driving to Heidi's. Obviously, the date went great! I definitely felt a connection to him. The next night, we went out to dinner again and then went to a bar for more conversation and drinks. Once again, it was great! I was definitely really liking Lucas. After those back to back dates, I had to go to Ohio for a week for a horse show. Immediately after the horse show, I went to the beach with my family for a week. Lucas was aware of all of this travelling and knew he wouldn't see me for at least 2 weeks. Well, he decided that was too long and came to the beach on his days off. He took me out to dinner where we had an amazing meal and then we sat on the beach and talked about...everything. After that third date, I knew that this was what I had always wanted. Someone kind and caring. Someone who went above and beyond to show how much he cared. Someone who listened and made an effort to do all the things. Obviously, you know what happened from there. We continued dating and we fell in love. When Lucas proposed, I was not expecting it. One thing about Lucas is that he cannot keep a secret from me to save his life. He couldn't wait to give me my Christmas presents, so he gave them to me throughout the entire month of December whenever they came in the mail. When he's really excited about something, he cannot keep it to himself. So I knew when he ordered my ring. He couldn't help but to tell me. Another thing about our relationship is that I never check the mail, unless there's a package on the porch. Lucas picked me up from the barn when I got back from a show in June and almost immediately told me to not check the mail. He said, "Don't check the mail. Just get in the shower. Don't check the mail." I looked at him while thinking, "When do I ever check the mail? What is going on in his head?" Then it hit me: the ring must've come in. I just smiled and said, "Okay!" After my shower, once I was settled on the couch with a glass of wine, Lucas sat down and said, "Babe, it looks beautiful and I really hope you like it. Is it bad that I want to try it on you to make sure it fits?" I said, "No, of course it's not bad!" He then proceeded to throw me a shirt to tie around my head so he could put it on me to make sure it fit. It was on my finger for less than 5 seconds and I could tell it took everything in him to not ask right then and there. But he wanted to talk to my mom first (good choice on his part). He took the ring back and hid it from me. No, I did not peek or go looking for it later! Two days later, he proposed at Heidi's where we had our first date. I had no idea that he had gone to talk to my mom, but apparently he left work early that day and went to her house. Obviously, she was super excited and said that she had been waiting for this since December! To say that this man has made me happy is an understatement. This has been the best year of my life and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with Lucas as his wife!
