We met through our younger cousins who were dating at the time around Thanksgiving. Hanging out in a group-like setting was pretty much the only way they could spend time with one another, we were just along for their ride. I was 15 years old at that time and Lucas was very, very quiet and didn't talk much, very much the opposite me :). The more time I spent with him the more I liked him, he was different and that drew me in. Lucas respectfully asked me to the movies one night and I remember feeling just SO excited and from that day forward we spent almost everyday with one another. I couldn't wait to get home from school just to be able to see him, but I was met with such devastation when he had to go back home to North Carolina. I loved him and this was a love that would not ever go away even after many years passed. No matter how much I tried to forget about him I had a deep belief that I would eventually see and be with him again. . and I did and now here we are!
Typically, Lucas always plans something for Valentine's Day whether it be dinner, flowers, or just coming home with something special for me but on this day... on this day, I received NOTHING! I didn't get so much as a handwritten letter, and I was upset about it. I felt unloved and didn't fail to voice it. He then told me that he would soon be taking me to Florida so I calmed myself thinking ok this is going to be a duo trip for his upcoming birthday and Valentines day combined. We get to Florida and I was looking for car rental signs, Lucas was convinced we had to go the opposite direction and get on a shuttle which caused a small dispute but ultimately he told me he's was going this way PERIOD. Brittini alone in a big airport? Ok, fine I'll follow but I know I'm right so we are going to be turning right around I thought to myself. We end up next to another gate and when I look at him, like what's going on he pulls out another ticket to San Juan, PR! I was immediately excited with surprise #1. We spent the first few nights in PR together walking, exploring, eating and drinking margaritas (for me). Side note: The margaritas in PR are authentic LOL I had one too many on the night of his birthday 02/19 and felt like I couldn't go on with our activities the next day. However, I toughed it out since we were in PR. We took a late night walk to this area we had visited the prior day that overlooked the ocean and had beautiful historic buildings all around. Lucas decided it would be a great idea to climb on the roof of one of these buildings and had to pull me up otherwise I wasn't going to make it LOL. After getting on the roof we sat under the stars and listened to the waves crash against Puerto Ricos La Muralla. I got up to look down below and when I turned back around there he was, on one knee. I got very light headed instantly and thought I was going to fall off the roof (literally) he also felt a bit weak in the knees LOL. Of course I said yes.. after he asked if it was a yes.. I guess all I could say was omg in that moment :)
