Mackenzie was invited by her friend (and now, bridesmaid!) Claire to attend a charity gala for the Children's Inn at NIH in the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center. Similarly, Luc and his friend Josh were also invited by Claire to attend the gala. Mackenzie got all dressed up and Luc got in his best suit! Claire had a suspicion Mackenzie and Luc would get along. They were introduced at the event, and after a few minutes of talking to one another, knew there was something special. They debated about whether Virginia or Maryland is better (debate is still ongoing), chatted about Luc's bright orange car (can't miss it) and discussed Mackenzie's passion for travel (which Luc would soon witness). Then, they danced the night away. Luc asked Mackenzie on a date shortly after, and the two were inseparable from there. A year later, their friends and fellow gala-attendees, Claire and Josh, started dating and are now engaged. I guess that gala was really meant to be!

If you know one thing about Mackenzie, you know she loves to travel - anywhere, everywhere, at all times. Luc knows this very well, so he figured the perfect engagement would be during an amazing trip. Mackenzie and Luc planned a trip to the Galapagos Islands where they traveled and stayed on a boat. One day, the boat staff said they were going to adjust the itinerary and add a surprise sunset cruise. Mackenzie didn't think anything of it. When the time came, Mackenzie and Luc boarded the tender boat and headed toward an island. Sea lions played in the boat's wake as they sped by the coast. Once they got to the island, Luc led Mackenzie up a winding trail to the top of a mountain where the boat's captain was there with a bottle of champagne and a sign was posted that read "Mackenzie will you marry me?". Mackenzie said yes!
