An airy German-influenced beer hall around the corner from Hotel Indigo East Liberty. Joel loves this spot because they always have Schlenkerla (a German smoke beer) on tap.
The "Cathedral of Hope" is Samantha's current field education site. It is a beautiful, historic building and worth wandering through for its architectural beauty. Sunday morning services are held in the main sanctuary at 11:00am.
A classic neighborhood bar favored by the tattooed white collar 30-somethings of Pittsburgh's east end. Surprisingly great bar food (try to mac'n cheese or tater tots!). Close to Hotel Indigo East Liberty and open late.
Our favorite spot for a fancy night out. Joel loves the lamb available from Elysian Fields Farm. Samantha loves their homemade gnocchi and risotto.
Samantha LOVES this cash-only thai spot for lunch or dinner.
This local chain is the standard-bearer for Pittsburgh breakfasts. Famous for their crepe-style pancakes, this location is in our home neighborhood of Squirrel Hill and is cash only. Expect a waitlist on weekend mornings!
A sister restaurant to Pamela's dinner, this Saturday/Sunday-only brunch spot offers an amazing array of breakfast entrees with a "nosh bar" (think: latke hushpuppies, chopped liver, Joel's favorite mac'n cheese, challah bread pudding, and more).
A greasy spoon alternative to Pamela's, this no-nonsense diner is another brunch favorite of ours!
A hip restaurant specializing in traditional and reimagined polish/czech cuisine. Everything they serve is vegan, but don't let that dissuade you! We think this is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh.
This is our go-to spot for a hearty meal of spaetzle, schnitzel, bier cheese and good brews. Fun fact: we're getting our kegs from this place for our wedding reception. :)
