We met through the dating app Hinge and had our first date in the Boston Commons. We started talking because Lisa texted Pat to ask "What's your favorite kind of pizza?" based on his profile fun fact of "Every Pizza is a personal pizza if you believe". We exchanged topping preferences, seemed to think it was fun to talk to each other and decided to meet up. Pat was sitting on a bench just outside the exit of the T at Park Street waiting for Lisa to arrive. She found him and Pat decided to start by talking about how he had spent the morning at his Grandmother's in Beverly helping her with chores. He spoke about his family as a whole and asked about Lisa's. We got omelets to go at The Paramount in Beacon Hill. Lisa was nervous while she ordered so she accidentally ordered what Pat had said he would like, so Pat had to order what Lisa wanted. We took our food to a bench in the Public Garden near the ducks to people watch while we ate and talked. Lisa shared about her job, rowing plans and her currently broken ribs. After eating we walked around the Public Garden and walked by the Park Street stop again. Pat likes to remind Lisa that this was her out, she could have gone home, but she decided to stay. We wandered into the North End, got cannolis (Lisa still faked that she could eat gluten and dairy at this point) and took our cannolis to a pier to eat and talk a little more. Pat was really smooth and put his arm around Lisa to 'keep her warm'. We didn't realize how late it was until we started to notice the sun was going down and it was Sunday so we should go home and grocery shop and things. Pat was proud of himself he did not check the Ravens score during the date but was sad to see they had lost 22-20 to the Jaguars on a last-second field goal that should not have counted. We walked back to the T, Lisa admitted to Pat that he's lucky he had just turned 25 because her Hinge was set for 25 and up. We agreed we were lucky to meet each other's height requirements.
Pat had taken the afternoon off work so he and Lisa could go down to MGH to visit the nurses who cared for Lisa while she was there a year prior. Lisa went for a nice walk with her high school friend Laura for the morning. Pat and Lisa asked Laura to take a 'family picture' of them with Penny before they left so that they could print it an include it in the thank you card to the nurses. Lisa decided she would skip showering after a sweaty walk and just straighten her hair so she looked more put together for MGH. Pat and Lisa stopped by CVS in Medford to pick up the pictures and Pat came out with a pack of gum. He asked if Lisa minded if they make a stop before MGH. Lisa asked where Pat said he just wanted to walk around the North End. Lisa asked why, he said, no reason, it's just nice out. (looking back all he needed to say was they were meeting someone to swap beer and Lisa would not have suspected anything). Lisa was a bit suspicious but didn't ruin the surprise. Pat parked down the road from the pier they had met at 3.5 years earlier. They got to the end, all by themselves to look out at the Boston Harbor. Just as they were taking in the view, Lisa went to look at Pat and he was down on one knee. She barely let him say "will you marry me" before she said yes, pulled him to his feet to kiss him and let him try and put the ring on her finger. Turning an incredibly emotional and slightly somber day into a day full of love, positivity and helping Pat and Lisa focus on what life has to offer looking forward rather than looking through the rearview mirror. Now April 29 is a day holding one of the happiest experiences Pat and Lisa share!
