We met at McCluer High School, Patrick was the lead in a highschool musical West Side Story and Ebony was in the ensemble. We were both in the theatre/dance community so even after highschool sometimes ran into one another. We reconnected at Polar Express and became closer friends. We had connected so deeply during a difficult time in both of our lives, we fell in love, and we’ve been rebuilding our lives together as a blended family. Throughout our relationship on Loving Day, we have made it a big deal to celebrate as a family so it’s only right that we chose this day as our wedding day.
Loving Day is an annual celebration held on June 12 to commemorate the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, which legalized interracial marriage nationwide by striking down anti-miscegenation laws. It promotes awareness of multiracial families and racial justice through community events, social media, and education Richard Loving (white) and Mildred Jeter (Black/Native American) were married in 1958, arrested in Virginia, and sentenced to prison or exile from their state, leading to their landmark supreme court case. The day is a reminder of the fight for the right to marry, which Chief Justice Earl Warren stated is a "basic civil right" and a key part of the 14th Amendment.
