The One Where They Meet

August 30, 2012

It was the first week of Katie and Tyler's sophmore year at Texas A&M, known fondly by students as "syllabus week," because classes had begun but assignments were sparse. Tyler had just completed pledging his fraternity (Delta Tau Delta) in the spring, and was finally able to partake in Delt shenanigans. The most cherished of these was Fajitas n Ritas, a party in the Delt backyard featuring Texas Country artist Cory Morrow, sombreros, and... y'all get the picture. Tyler, donning cowboy boots, white-washed Wranglers, and a colorful poncho, was looking for a dance partner, when a petite blonde girl in a blue dress with Aztec print caught his eye. Resting an arm on her shoulder (smooth), he said "You're short... we should be best friends" (so smooth). Katie made polite conversation for a few minutes, until Cory started playing "Lonesome," a fast-paced (breakup) song that happened to be one of Tyler's favorites at the time. He immediately grabbed Katie's hand, asked her to dance, and yanked her to the dance floor without waiting for her answer. A spin, twist, and a twirl later, the two knew this could be something special.

The One With the Proposal

September 16, 2017

A little more than five years after they met, Tyler decided to propose in College Station, the city where it all began. Tricked into coming to A&M by a “nice dinner with her sister,” Katie had no idea Tyler was in town. Katie and Hannah spent an hour primping and getting dolled up for what Katie thought would just be a fun night out, and then set out towards "Christopher's"... which really turned out to be George Bush Presidential Library (Tyler knew that Katie is notoriously awful with directions). Katie did not grow suspicious until they pulled into the library parking lot, to which Hannah's explained "Oh, I just needed to do some studying..." on a Saturday night... at a library that has no books... As Katie walked past the library to the garden behind it, Tyler popped out from behind a wall and took Katie by the hand. He led her around the pond to a gazebo on the other side. While he had spent the night before walking around the pond with Hannah, rehearsing exactly what he was going to say, when the moment came they were too eager and excited to do anything but laugh. When they reached the gazebo, Tyler knelt down on one knee, took Katie’s hand, and asked her to marry him. She of course said YES! After the proposal, their families showed up to join in the festivities. And the best part? They ended up celebrating with dinner at Christopher's after all!
