It was around 7:30 A.M. when I had just finished working a night shift and I was waiting for one of my friends to finish her charting so we could clock out. The ambulance bay door opened and in walked this medic that caught my eye a couple nights before. Even though I was technically done with my shift I figured that checking in his patient was a good excuse to go talk to him. I grabbed a chart, took a deep breath and walked over. He barely even looked up from the laptop he was charting on. Instead of saying something cute or flirty, I decided to blurt out "Hey don't you normally work night shifts?" He responded with "Yea but I like overtime". And that was it. I finished checking in his patient and clocked out. A few days go by and I decided to send him a friend request on Facebook. He accepted and then he sent me a follow request on Instagram. Nothing happened for a couple weeks. Every night I went into work with butterflies hoping I would see him, but I never did. Then while I was out at the River over Memorial Day weekend he sent me a super random blurry picture of a table from Toby Keith's Bar and Grill. I don't know if he was impressed that I was able to identify a blurry bar top but we started talking from that point on and the rest is history.
To celebrate Christian passing his probation with the Ontario Fire Department we decided to go to Hawaii. I had my hopes up that he would propose on this trip and all my friends kept telling me "He's gonna do it! He's gonna do it!". Well. He got me good. We were about to take off from LAX and I got a text message from a friend with just the Bride and Ring emoji and I started smiling all goofy. He saw this message and looked me dead in the eye and says, "Kaitlyn. I'm not proposing on this trip. I've been so busy with probation I didn't have time to shop for a ring. Please don't get your hopes up because it is going to ruin your trip". And with that I tried to hide the tears streaming down my face as we took off. So we land in Kauai and I had a pity party for 1, drank some Koloa Rum and tried to get over it. Deep down I still had hope. Well we do some amazing things in Kauai. We hiked to waterfalls in Waimea Canyon - no proposal. Tubed down the old sugar cane canals - no proposal. Went to Hanalei Bay and Queens Bath - no proposal. Toured the Na Pali Coast on a Zodiac - no proposal. Watched the most amazing, breathtaking sunset - no proposal. So at this point I realized it wasn't going to happen. It was our second to last night and he made reservations for a restaurant called Tidepools. We get there and he keeps insisting that we go watch the sunset on the beach but typical me is super hungry (almost hangry) and I tell him "No I just want to eat!" So we sit down and I finally get some poke and I'm happy again. He gives our waitress the go pro and says lets take a picture. Next thing I know he goes down on one knee and I start to ugly cry and mumbled "YES!". It was the most perfect moment.
