Summer 2005...she was a new high school graduate and he was party happy college kid home for the summer. He came into Target to start his summer job and there she was at her register, the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. The timing wasn't right since she was prepping for those college athlete days while he had a girlfriend. We had fun nights that summer as a group with Target friends and Aldrin, the best friend next door. As summer faded they both went on with their lives, yet Michael still dreamed of the day she would be his. Fall 2012...Maddie got a job back home at TAMUCC and was visiting Moody, to her surprise Michael's mom was the counselor. Michael's mom immediately recognized her as "Ms. Mojica's daughter". All she could tell Maddie was that her son was single and an engineer and single and still single. The next day, Michael called and without hesitation invited Maddie for drinks. After a couple of dates Michael was completely smitten. As they were saying goodbye after the final date Michael looked at Maddie with eyes that said "you are the one". Maddie, being the independent, wild, and free hot mess you all know and love, ran away. Fall 2017...Maddie was busy cleaning up after Hurricane Harvey damage, while Michael sat at home in Houston waiting for the rain to stop. Michael snapped the water down his street and Maddie replied. His heart stopped, he responded and told himself this was his last chance. After a couple weeks of talking, Michael went down to Corpus to visit. As he walked into the Post and saw her from across the room all the feelings from the past 12 years came rushing back, but would she feel the same way? This time was different, he wasn't trying to impress her, he was just being himself. It took two months for him to steal her heart. The World Series weekend proved to be the experience that opened Maddie's eyes to forever. The boring boy that she once believed him to be became the man of her dreams!
We both have a strong desire for travel so it was no surprise that Michael wanted to get down on one knee during one of many adventures to come. But getting there became a family affair that somehow stayed a complete secret to Maddie. The Ring...Michael has always told Maddie how different she is from everyone he has ever met. He wanted the ring to represent her and how he saw her. It had to be different, it had to be one of a kind, it had to be perfect, and it had to be just like her. Michael decided to go 100% custom and design and choose every piece of the ring. Being the engineer that he is and constantly demanding perfection, he became the jewelers worst nightmare. Sharing his frustration with his family and Maddie's family became an every day occurrence. He wasn't going to back down until he had every little thing he wanted. Blessings...With the ring finally perfect Michael's next step was to ask for Maddie's hand in marriage. He invited Maddie's mom and grandparents out to dinner while Maddie was away at a track meet. He asked for blessings from all three. Poppy had jokes, as always, grandma had so much excitement, and Maddie's mom knew immediately that this was the fairytale she had always imagined for her little girl, without hesitation she said yes. Antelope Canyon...Michael thought long and hard on how he would propose and where it would be. Since just about everything in their relationship revolved around travel, it seemed perfect. Michael handed the camera to the tour guide, walked back to Maddie, got down on one knee, and simply said "Maddie, will you marry me?" Maddie couldn't believe it and without hesitation pulled Michael up and said "Yes". It was perfect!
