It all started over a Jameson cocktail. In the pre-pandemic year of our Lord, 2019, spirit companies would throw happy hour events with complementary food and drinks. Anytime these came around whoever was the first to get the link would put it in the group chat and then we would scramble to get our tickets. This particular one led us to a dive bar in East Atlanta Village, an east side staple called Graveyard with a black hearse permanently parked in the front. Once inside, past the 2 layers of security and trouncing through the sticky floor, I found myself at the bar collecting one of the many rounds of free libations. I placed my order for as many drinks as they would allow me to carry and there she was.... On the other side of the bar stood the prettiest lil chocolate thing, fine as all outdoors, directly in front of me. The only problem was that she was there with someone, but all I saw was an obstacle, I was meant to overcome. So, I did what anybody would do. I took the drinks back to my friends and I waited for my time to move in. After receiving the assurance from my council of bad influences, I was ready to make my move. But first, I needed to see if the person she was with was friend or foe. So, when she went to the bathroom, I approached him with a simple, "Aye my boy, she with you? Because if she ain't I'm gonna shoot my shot." He informed me they were just friends and when she came back, I lulled lukewarm lullabies in her left ear, competing with "Crew" by Goldlink in the right, but it all blends perfectly, let the liquor tell it. She gave me the number. The next day I sent her a text message. She responds. We talk. We laugh. Then, mid conversation, I call her on FaceTime without warning. She answers with a perplexed look on her face, but she answers. And after a few seconds of convincing her to stay on the call, I was able to convince her to - "Meet me in an hour on Peter St" for our first date. ~Domenio

After the night we met, Domenio and I hung out the next day and everyday for almost two weeks. I knew I liked him because I looked forward to us hanging out and he didn't get on my nerves. It was natural, authentic, he was fun, funny and so sweet to me... It just simply felt good. After a few months of dating, we made it official Labor Day 2019. We both had a few friends over for the holiday weekend and afterwards we reflected on how great the weekend went. Later on that night Domenio asked me to be his girlfriend. I was excited and happy - I said yes!!! ~Alanna.

It's now 2023. We had now been approaching our 4 year anniversary and tensions were rising. I knew that my grace period had expired and doubts were beginning to set in. Now I faced a new challenge. "How can I pull off a proposal that will happen soon but also still be a surprise?" Earlier in the year she asked me to join her, her mom, sister, and niece in Tampa for a conference that her mother attends annually that usually falls on her birthday weekend. I knew that was my chance. This was perfect! She would already have most of her immediate family there and because it's her birthday weekend, she would already have hair and nails done. Now all I had to do was coordinate secretly getting my mom to Tampa that weekend, get a formal approval from both her parents, find a Tampa-based photographer, and oh yea... BUY THE RING! But luckily, it all went down without a hitch and she was genuinely surprised. ~Domenio Took him forever but he did it lol and I said yes... Again lol. I was genuinely surprised and I was on Cloud 9 for days!! ~Alanna
