One of the best decisions I ever made was accepting an invitation to walk across the parade deck with an upperclassmen as a Knob at The Citadel. Of course I got caught, and my punishment was to stay on campus to clean the barracks with all of the cadets that lived in South Carolina. One of those cadets was Sara Winch, and we were paired to clean the same area of the battalion. After bonding while dusting full presses and sweeping, we became friends. I had a feeling that I had to contact this beautiful woman everyday to stay close friends. Fast forward a couple months and being put on the spot to answer the question "what are we?" Sara and I started dating. Our relationship endured the strict regiment of The Citadel (just want to let everyone know I graduated with a higher rank and no punishments, the only thing she beat me at was her GPA). Once we survived The Citadel we moved to Richmond and adopted three fur babies. It has since been happily ever after. My big brother always said to marry a woman that makes you better as a man. I can say that Sara pushes me to be the best version of myself. She is my biggest supporter and my best friend who fills every gap that I have.
I remember my first thoughts about Jack when we were Knobs at The Citadel. It was when we were running through the battalion during sweep detail and I remember thinking "oh my gosh this guy has the skinniest legs!". We went the whole year not really knowing each other, but when Jack had to stay back for a cleaning detail little did I know that I would gain the best friend and eventual husband I could ever ask for. Throughout the entire night of having to clean the disgusting senior rooms, I realized that I had not stopped laughing since we started. Throughout the summer, we exchanged harmless texts about random stuff and once school started back again I realized I gained a fan on the soccer field. Honestly, I thought we were just gonna be great friends, but after an atrocious game, I came back to my room only to see two giant chocolate bars on my desk from Jack, and I knew our friendship was about to change. With Jack, everything is natural and I can truly be my genuine self. He brings out my best qualities and is my #1 supporter with everything life throws our way. His patience awes me every day and the way he can balance keeping me grounded as well as raise me up is truly special. I am the lucky one to be able to go through life with Jack- everyday with him is full of endless laughter, love, and support and that is the best gift a girl could ask for.
