Greg and Jill met in Negril, Jamaica. They had mutual friends at Marist College but had not run into each other. Luckily both of their friends decided to go to the same place on spring break their senior year. Greg almost didn't go as he thought his hockey team might make it into the playoffs- they didn't. Phewph. There was also a big storm before the trip started and a tree blocked his path out of his neighborhood, but he drove into the woods around it. Someone was looking out to make sure their paths finally crossed despite the obstacles! They danced one night in Jamaica and spent the last night of the trip on the balcony talking until the sun came up!
Greg proposed March 8, 2017 on a Wednesday afternoon. This March makes 7 years since we met. I've been pretty sure Greg and I would be together forever for quite a while now so I always joked he'd never be able to surprise me with a proposal, any night out could be it. However, Greg was up for the challenge. That Wednesday I was walking toward our apartment with big plans to do laundry, and I was carrying everything that accumulated in my car during the week. As soon as I opened the door and saw it full of candles with pedals on the floor I threw down everything I had and made my way over to my best friend who dropped to one knee to ask me the most important question there is. Obviously I said "oh my god, oh my god", until realizing I hadn't even said yes. At this point I squeaked out an "of course, yes!". Traveling to South Carolina and Tennessee with Greg was such a perfect way for us to step outside our comfort zone and grow together as a couple. It was the best 4 years but now I'm so excited to take on what life throws our way as mister and mrs.
March 8th, 2017 the most exciting but nerve-racking day of my life. Jill and I always joke how I cannot keep any secrets from her, I tell her everything. It was difficult to keep my composure before the proposal. The whole morning I felt as if I was jumping out of my skin, but the race began to get the apartment ready for the big moment. My original plan was to take her out to a romantic scenic vineyard, but with the busyness of our schedules I had to develop plan "B", because I could not wait any longer. I raced to get the rose pedals spread on the carpet, candles dispersed around the apartment, and the lighting just right to make everything look perfect. Now for the waiting game, I had no idea when she would be home, every car I saw my heart skipped a beat. Pacing around the apartment time felt like it was standing still, I couldn't wait any longer. Then I saw her, the love of my life whom I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. My smile grew large as she entered the room, this was it, the moment I've been waiting for! Tears of joy filled my eyes, as I got down on one knee, and at that moment I heard the best three letter word, "yes".
