Gibbs' Proposal
Nearly four years ago, I wasn’t really looking for anything serious — or at least that’s what I told myself. One quiet evening, I was scrolling online, not expecting anything special, when I came across Alex’s profile. There was something about his smile — warm, genuine, and just a little shy — that made me stop. After a few seconds of overthinking, I finally decided to send a message. I didn’t expect much, but from the very first reply, the conversation just flowed. We talked about everything — favorite movies, random memories, dreams for the future, and even the small things, like how we both liked our coffee. I found myself laughing out loud at my phone, smiling more than I wanted to admit. After a few weeks of talking every day, we decided it was time to meet in person. That evening began with a knock on the door — not a text saying “I’m outside”, but an actual knock. That alone made me smile. I was presented with a bouquet of flowers and lottery tickets. As he walked me to his car and, without hesitation, opened the passenger door for me. It was smooth — as if it wasn’t an effort, just natural. I slid into the seat, feeling that quiet sense of being cared for, something I hadn’t felt in a long time. We chose the Rainforest Café in Sunrise, at Sawgrass Mills Mall — a fun, slightly wild choice that somehow felt perfect for a first date. I remember walking in and spotting Alex right away. The same warmth from our messages was there in person, even stronger. The date couldn’t have gone better. Between the sound of waterfalls and the sudden “thunderstorms” from the animatronic jungle, we talked and laughed for hours. The world around us faded a little — it just felt easy, natural, and real. When the night ended, I didn’t want it to. I knew, right then, that this was something special. Now, four years later, I still think about that night — how one simple message turned into a love story that started with a smile and a first date at Rainforest Café.
