It all began one Sunday after church, where Louis and Katherine officially met and connected over talk of traveling. Katherine had just come back from her family holiday to America and Louis was about to go on a work trip to Russia. It didn't take long before Katherine joined the church small group that Louis facilitated and a friendship began. From Bible school, outreaches, social dinners and weekends away, it quickly became clear to Katherine that this man was someone special. However, patience was required as it took Louis a little longer (8 months to be exact!) to realise that he has feelings too. With the new year, came new opportunities to spend time together and get to know each other intentionally. After three weeks of being "friends", Katherine met Louis' father in Rustenburg and with the stamp of approval, an hour later, he asked her to be his girlfriend at the viewpoint of Kgaswane Nature Reserve.
After weeks of planning the perfect engagement, with a beautiful sunrise at the beach in Ballito on the 13th of July, all plans failed the moment Louis got the ring in his hands. A strategic decision was made 2pm, on Thursday the 13th of June, to ask Katherine's hand in marriage that same night. After a challenging week for Katherine, Louis asked her to dress up because he was taking her out to dinner. Once he came to fetch her for dinner, they had to go passed his place to collect his jacket (with the ring in it) he "forgot". Louis had a plan, with the help of his best friend BB, he had set up a picnic blanket on the roof of their apartment and BB around the corner with champagne and roses to celebrate. This romantic gesture, spoke to Katherine's heart but the evening continued to take her by surprise. It didn't take long before Louis was on one knee with a ring in his hand (in pitch dark looking for a flashlight), asking Katherine to marry him... "Yes, of course, yes!" was Katherine's response and it was official - they are engaged to be married! And then BB came around the corner...
