It was the Summer of 2014 the 20th World Cup was a buzz. Carlos and Mayra were immersed in texting about the Mexico national team until the infamous “No Era Penal” led their blossoming friendship to a halt. Once Carlos laid eyes on Mayra back on their college campus, he was set on not letting her get away. After coordinating a very strategic Thirsty Thursday, Mayra and her girl gang were at the infamous “The spot ”. Carlos “coincidentally” showed up with his friends and he made a promise to Mayra to bring her a donut the following morning as they prepared for an early morning excursion. Little did Carlos know donuts always held a special place in her heart and…. stomach . Staying out until 3:00am and having a 7:00am wake up call, Mayra had little faith Carlos would show up with donuts that morning. Unbeknownst to Mayra, Carlos set an alarm, woke up that morning, and specifically chose a strawberry sprinkled donut. For those of you who don’t know, Mayra’s favorite food is donuts; specifically, a strawberry frosted sprinkle donut. (I know, the plot thickens.) Carlos spotted Mayra near the charter bus they were about to board for a weekend adventure. As Carlos walked excitedly towards Mayra, he confidentially handed her the donuts and stated, “I told you I would remember” He then hopped onto the bus and didn’t look back. Mayra was stunned that he remembered. She opened the bag, and the rest they will tell you over coffee and donuts….
