It was Tuesday, September 8, 2015, the first class of our discipleship training school, which would be a year spent with our seven other classmates from church going deeper with Jesus. Kyle walked up to Lucia and introduced himself. He thought she was pretty and she liked his eyes. That year of Training school would prove to be an incredibly humbling, challenging, and freeing year where Kyle and Lucia, along with their classmates, formed a unique bond of friendship. At the end of the year, Lucia went back to Colombia and was never heard from again.... kidding, she is great at staying in touch with friends long distance, but Kyle stinks at it, so the emails that she sent were not always responded to and contact over the next few years was little to none. They were great friends a long distance away, nothing more....
April 2017, Kyle finds himself sitting across from Lucia thinking to himself about how beautiful this Godly-Colombian woman is. Lucia had returned to visit her friends in Boston and gone to Kyle's house to have a training school reunion. This was the spark even though neither of them knew it at the time. As far as they knew Lucia was still living 3000 miles away in Bogota, Colombia, so they remained friends. Meanwhile the Lord was using each passing day to grow and prepare them for what He had in store....
In November 2018, Lucia decided to take a step of faith and return again to Boston. She landed in Boston in early February and saw Kyle for the first time on Valentines day. A month later on March 10th Kyle awkwardly asked her out and she said "I guess so".... so the flames were ignited, kind-of. Two weeks later much progress had been made and Kyle surprised her at her house to ask her to officially be boyfriend and girlfriend, to which she said "Yes"....
After 6 months of growing deeper in a new kind of friendship, falling in love, working though boy-girl communication stuff, and trying to take each new step with the Lord, Kyle walked Lucia out onto the Harvard Bridge in Boston for a "surprise, romantic-detour," got down on one knee and said "Naylea Lucia Canate, I have fallen in love with you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" And we'll let you guess what she said....
So here we are now, knee deep in wedding planning, but so excited and in awe of what God has given us. You all have been a part of our story and we want to invite you in to celebrate with us! So let's fiesta, Los Fletchers style!
