We swiped right on Tinder in February 2017 and went on our very first date shortly after, on March 4. Dinner at Alondra Hot Wings was followed by a movie, Get Out but the real story was everything we learned about each other that night. Jen discovered that Raul doesn’t eat cheese, ranch, or sour cream (still shocking to this day), and that he comes from a very big family. Raul learned that Jen loves cheese, ranch, and sour cream and that her entire family lives in Mérida, Mexico. The night ended with a sweet hug and a shared feeling: we both knew we wanted to see each other again. What we didn’t know then was that this wouldn’t just be a great first date it would be our last first date. Over the next five years, we shared countless adventures traveling to places like Guadalajara, Mérida, New York, Utah, Arizona, and Lake Tahoe, just to name a few. With each trip, we learned more about each other and about our families, and somewhere along the way, we found ourselves falling deeper and deeper in love. In May of 2022, we took the next big step in our journey we got our own place together. It felt like such a dream to finally share a space we could call home. From cooking meals side by side to unwinding after long days, it became one of the most meaningful parts of our relationship. Of course, like any couple, we had our arguments and differences, but through it all, we knew we had something rare, something real and deep down, we both knew: this was it. One day, we decided we needed a getaway a real adventure to somewhere neither of us had ever been. We set our sights on one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the breathtaking Machu Picchu in Peru. While it was meant to be a shared vacation, only one of us knew it would be more than that. For one, it was a chance to explore a beautiful country. For the other, it was a nerve-wracking, hand-sweating, heart-racing journey toward a life-changing moment. After six unforgettable days exploring the magic of Peru, the big day finally arrived. We made our way to the iconic Machu Picchu the place we’d dreamed of seeing and in a moment more perfect than we could’ve planned, everything changed. We arrived as boyfriend and girlfriend… and left with full hearts, a ring on her finger, and a forever ahead of us, officially engaged and over the moon with love, laughter, and excitement for what’s to come.
