Hotel
Links are provided below, but here is a little information: When looking for a place to stay, you will most likely want to stay in Cruz Bay; it is where the ferry drops you off, most stores and restaurants/nightlife are located here, and it is where our reception will be held. You might also want to pair up with family or friends to split costs. Places that are labeled "Greater Cruz Bay" most likely will not be walking distance, even if it looks close to downtown on a map (the hills are no joke!). If you are interested in the budget friendly and unique island camping or "glamping" experience, check out Cinnamon Bay Campground, built by our very own Sean Holt. Although not close to town, it is brand new and located right on the beach. https://www.cinnamonbayvi.com/ If you are looking for a hotel/resort style of stay, we recommend: Gallows Point- Parking, condo-style, located directly on the water. Walk down a small hill and you are in downtown Cruz Bay. The Westin- Hotel style rooms with many amenities. Not walking distance to town. For a place to stay that is located directly in downtown: Wharfside Village Hotel- Directly on Cruz Bay beach. No parking, but taxis are located right outside of this location. Grande Bay- Located right in downtown, kid friendly, and offers parking. For a condo-style stay, we recommend: Seagrape Vista and The Flamingo House. Both are walking distance to town if able-bodied (steep hills), parking available. seagrapevista.com flamingohousevi.com Your guide to finding a place anywhere on island whether it be a cottage, villa, or resort: https://stjohn-villarentals.com/villa-search/ Keep in mind, some places may have a minimum nights stay. If you have any questions when booking a place, please don't hesitate to reach out to us! We can let you know how close your place would be to nightlife, beaches, etc.
Rental Car
Renting a car is not mandatory if you are staying directly in Cruz Bay, but personally, we recommend it. There are large safari-style taxis located in downtown Cruz Bay that will bring you anywhere on island and they wait in the parking lot of beaches. If you want to run on your own schedule or be able to go to the store before or after the beach, renting your own car is more ideal (and might cost less than taxi fares). *Please keep in mind, the roads are winding and very hilly with switchbacks. They drive on the left side of the road with U.S. style vehicles. It’s very fun, but might not be for everyone, so taxis would be the better option for you!* Make sure to see if your rental or resort has car space for you as well, most do. Car rentals we have used in the past: Slim Man's Jeep Rental, Mr. Piper's Jeeps, and St. John Car Rental. Some car rentals that are located directly in downtown offer parking when you book with them.
Flight
You will fly into St. Thomas airport (Charlotte Amalie). Upon exiting the baggage claim area, you will find taxis waiting for you. Tell them you are going to Red Hook (cash only- flat rate per person). Red Hook is the ferry dock in St. Thomas. Ferry tickets are available to purchase on your phone beforehand (recommended) but you can also buy them in person at the dock. Prepare for a ride full of twists and turns, then reward yourself with a painkiller at the ferry bar while you wait for the boat. The ferry ride itself is about 15 minutes. If you're coming from the northeast, flying out of Boston or JFK will be direct and most likely cost much less than T.F. Green. Direct flights to Boston occur only on certain days.
