She was just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train going anywhere. Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit. He took the midnight train going anywhere... Well that, but actually we met at the beautiful Broward Center for the Performing Arts. She was a big town (Miami) girl living in a relatively still large town (Fort Lauderdale) and working in the marketing department. He was also a big town boy (living in Miami) and working in the I.T. department, commuting to Broward and driving in traffic everyday. We first met at an after-work corporate sponsored fitness program. Later, we really hit it off at a few retirement parties for our colleagues until one very special day fate had us cross paths at the valet parking lot after work. She needed help with setting up her cable box, and he was the man for the job. Though he was late to his sister's birthday dinner that night and his family was upset, it was well worth the delay because deep inside we both knew we had found each other's soul mate that fall September day.
Earlier this year, Alex raved about this Beatles Tribute playing at the Broward Center. As the show date neared, he asked me to meet him at the Center because he had to work late and would have to go directly from work to the show. He also told me his boss gifted us tickets to the club level for dinner along with a meet and greet with the artists as a thank you for working late. When I arrived at the center, I was told to go to the ballroom for the artist meet and greet. On my way there, I was greeted by a friendly former coworker who told me Alex was waiting for me inside the ballroom while making the line to meet the artists (Big thanks to Amy for playing along). I opened the ballroom doors, and to my GREAT surprise, there was a path of rose petals and candles laid out across the room. The path opened up to a giant heart where Alex was standing on the other side, wearing a suit and holding a bouquet of roses. I was shocked, excited and very nervous (so nervous I walked outside the perfect path he had laid out to reach him lol). As I approached him, he tells me to turn around and starts playing a PowerPoint video he created filled with moments and memories of our love story (see video above). The video ended with a final pause, where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Now here we are planning the next chapter of our lives and excited to gather with family and friends for our special day! ...and if you're reading this far and are thinking (what an epic proposal), it didn't end there. He also had a beautiful table setup for a private 5-course dinner in the ballroom, where we were waited on hand and foot by an A-list team of chefs (also his coworkers - Thank you Darren and Oscar!). We had the whole place to ourselves and it was a Broward Center production (Thank you Kirstie and Team!). It was truly the most magical night a girl could ever dream of and a memory we will cherish forever :)
