How We Met

03/30/2018

I'd love to say that the first time Douglas and I met, there were sparks in the air, and it was love at first sight...but unfortunately, neither of us actually remember meeting each other! We have photographic evidence that we were both at a small, Catholic youth retreat called Subiaco in 2013, but we do not remember ever speaking. So, the first time Doug and I really spent time together was when we went on a mission trip to Kentucky in 2014 with St. Mary Port Huron. Doug was from Holy Family in Memphis, and he unexpectedly ended up being the only one to come from his parish. We ended up in the same car together, and the rest is history! Well sort of... After a week long mission trip and some help from my sister Erin, Doug and I became very close friends for the next four years before we started dating. I thank the Lord everyday for giving awkward, high school Doug the courage to go on that mission trip. I found my best friend and the love of my life. -Hannah

The Proposal

03/08/2019

"If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans" - Woody Allen I had spent weeks getting everything in order so that the proposal would go off without a hitch. I had gotten the ring, asked Jacque for his blessing, and made sure all of Hannah's sisters would be in town. Hannah is the most competitive person I know, and one of her favorite things is trivia. I had a trivia company setup for 7pm at Rix's Rooftop in downtown Port Huron. Everything was going perfectly, and then the day of the proposal, I got a call at 2pm from Rix's informing me they had been shut down by the fire department because of ventilation issues. Talk about a heart stopping moment! But luckily, the people at Rix's had a connection with the Vintage, another restaurant in downtown Port Huron, which I had previously talked to about possibly doing the proposal at, and I was able to get the whole thing switched to that location. I have no idea how Hannah did not suspect something with the family in town and the sudden change of location, but we got there, and the trivia night went great! And for the final question, the trivia person had Hannah stand up, and she thought she was going to have to answer a final question to win the game, but then I got down on my knee and asked her to marry me <3 -Douglas
