Yes! We'll be providing transportation for everyone from Barcelona to and from the ceremony, so please plan to come with us and no need to rent a car. It's about an hour drive on a comfortable highway from the hotel to the venue, and we'll have large comfortable busses, but if you're like Joe and tend to get motion sick, anti-nausea bands are never a bad idea to bring along!
Barcelona is very accessible by walking, trains, or taxi. We recommend google maps to plan your time. To take the train, you can buy tickets in the station or use the TMB website https://www.tmb.cat/en/barcelona-fares-metro-bus/t-mobilitat
Late May in Barcelona is warm and sunny, with cooler evenings near the coast. Much of the weekend will involve standing and walking, so breathable fabrics and comfortable shoes are recommended.
Friday’s welcome party is Cocktail Casual. Think polished but comfortable attire such as summer dresses, dressy jumpsuits, or nice pants or skirts with a top. For men, button-down shirts or polos with lightweight pants work well. Dressy sandals, loafers, or comfortable evening shoes are appropriate. Jackets or blazers are optional.
Saturday is Smart Casual and will involve walking and sightseeing. Comfortable, polished outfits and walking shoes are important. Breathable fabrics, sundresses, skirts, or lightweight pants with tops are ideal. Please note that Sagrada Familia requires covered shoulders and knee-length attire.
Sunday is Black Tie Optional. Tuxes and floor-length gowns are welcome but not required. Dark suits or formal evening dresses are perfectly appropriate. Since the celebration is outdoors by the coast, lighter fabrics and comfortable shoes are encouraged. Note on heels: The venue includes uneven surfaces with gravel and stone. Block heels, wedges, or elegant flats are recommended over stilettos.
Comfortable walking shoes for cobblestone streets and uneven surfaces. A light jacket, wrap, or shawl for cooler coastal evenings. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and sun protection for daytime sightseeing. A small crossbody bag or compact backpack for walking tours. A lightweight blazer or jacket (optional) for evenings and dressier moments. A portable phone charger for long days out. Personal medications and any daily essentials. A universal travel adaptor (see below).
Yes. Spain uses European-style electrical outlets. Guests traveling from the US will need a universal, Type C, or Type F plug adaptor for charging devices. Remember that Europe operates on different voltages than the US, so leave your high powered personal care items at home unless they are specifically "dual-voltage" (i.e. hair dryers, electric shavers, anything with a 3-prong outlet) Universal plug adaptors are readily available on amazon so you don't have to memorize different port types, here's a few options that we like: Anker (small, compact, 2-prong only with lots of USB ports) https://a.co/d/bYCbkry Generic 3-prong options (if you go for 3-prong, we recommend something with a fuse, like this one) https://a.co/d/epAqYyS
Visa credit cards are widely accepted around Barcelona, and all cabs accept credit card as a form of payment. You can take out Euros to carry with you, but you usually won't need it.
We'll be outside for the ceremony and cocktail hour near the water, so it may be breezy. The ceremony will be a reform Jewish ceremony, probably about 30 minutes. We'll have photographers and videographers around so no need to capture everything on your phone--we want you to enjoy your time!
We're in Spain so expect a party late into the night! We'll have busses leaving in waves starting about midnight, so you'll have multiple options on when to head back. For those that want to stay and dance, we'll end around 2:30am.
